  1. The story is VERY complicated, i could barely understand it. But I feel kind of bad for the mothers and the children that are on the streets. Its just sad how they are alone out there trying stay alive.

  2. I think it is repulsive, how can people sell their children for many, and the let that person eat them. Couldn't he think of other ways to earn money? If it was him, would he sell his own child to some sick rich person for them to eat!? Its just gross, i would never do something like that.

  3. Jonathan Swift wrote an essay about the troubled times in Ireland. Parents were eating their own children in order to survive. I am shocked that people were really poor to eat each other. I believe it must be a extreme pain for both of the children and parents, especially for the mothers.

  4. I've heard that there are some companies which are selling children's meat and organs to eat in China just like the story. In the movie "Changeling", there's a person who like to collect children and kill them by a chopper just for fun. I have no idea why human will do insane things like that!! I thought human have "big" brain to think and heart to feel, am I wrong?

  5. I think the main reason that causes Ireland in such dept is because the economy corruption. However, I never imagine that things are that terrible in Ireland. A lot of Mothers being beggar with there children clearly reflects how hard life is in Ireland. People eating one another is not only a problem about individual's morality, but also a problem about survival and human rights. Governments should step up and clean up the mess.

  7. In Chinese, there is a saying, 'children are the bones and flesh of their parents.' However, in the essay, A Modest Proposal, authored by Jonathan Swift, it informs that there are poor people, or beggars that sell their children for money. These people sell their children for people to eat. And even moreover, they also breed their children in certain ways to make them more eatable so that they cause a better prices.

I wonder how would people do that. Even without considering whether it's legal or whether it's moral, wouldn't people feel a since of sympathy for those dished babies? Though, it's absolutely fine if you disagree with me. I don't mind if you think I'm too softhearted. However, please think about this question, if it's your babies, will you sell them for money? Or will you eat your own babies, your own 'bones and flesh'?

I thought people are internally 'good', but this essay is supportive enough to argue against that.

  8. Initially i was shocked by the disturbing idea of eating newly born children. But eventually, i grew to realize that this was only a satire, a joke marked against the cruel acts of humanity. In my opinion, the story is attacking the cruel acts of humanity. It attacks how we can easily kill people in wars, conquer cities, yet we think eating children is cruel?

  10. At First when i read the story, i didn't really get the picture of what the writter is trying to express. But just then, I finally understand what the artical is talking about. I was shock. Jonathan Swift's essay talked about parents selling their children for money. Buyer who buy these children will eat them! I've heard stories about eating human being, but i never know that there is a market of selling and eat children! This essay is trying to tell us our sociaty today. Human kill human easly just for their own benifits. I now know that Jonathan Swift is trying express if we kill each other, it's basicly the same as killing children. But why won't we be shock?
